One Shot Hunt Rules

Home Up Hunts After OSH Hunt Rules

Note: A one shot bow hunt and a one shot pistol hunt will included in the event for 2006. The rules for these hunts are shown below. The rules for the one shot rifle hunt and the past shooters rifle hunt are similar to those from previous years and are also shown below.

One Shot Pistol Hunt Rules – New Shooters 2006

bullet

Hunting participants will be divided into teams of two people. You can select and form your own team. For the hunt, team mates will be hunting together.

bullet

Hunt begins at 7:30 AM or as specifically scheduled.

bullet

Team members alternate the right to shoot every 30 minutes. The initial period is selected by a coin toss. Example: Hunter A hunts from 7:30 AM to 8:00 AM, and then Hunter B hunts from 8:00 AM to 8:30 AM. Then the cycle repeats with Hunter A hunting again at 8:30 AM. If one of the hunters misses, the other hunter continues to hunt without alternating the hunt rights. If a hunter’s stalk has already commenced at the end of the 30 minutes, the hunter is allowed to complete the stalk.

bullet

A missed shot scores as zero. If you fail to fire a shot by 3:00 PM. then that also scores as a zero.

bullet

Shooting can only be done off hand, sitting, prone, using a mono-pod or using a natural support such as a tree or rock. No shooting from the vehicle is permitted or with the use of any non-natural support other than a mono-pod. A wounded animal that can be recovered without firing another shot constitutes a hit. If the wounded animal can only be recovered by firing more shots, then that constitutes a miss. A knife can be used to finish a severely wounded animal without penalty.

bullet

If the animal that is shot at is missed or wounded and not recovered, that constitutes a miss even if the original shot happened to kill another animal by accident.

bullet

If the animal actually shot is of another species than that which is being hunted, that constitutes a miss.

bullet

Keep track of the time that it took you to collect your impala.

bullet

After both hunters finish the competition, that is, two misses, or one miss and one hit, or two hits, hunting can continue for additional species or plains game by paying the normal trophy fees.

bullet

Make sure that you submit your team score by 4:45 PM of that day.

bullet

Remember that the purpose of the hunt is to get an impala with one shot. Sizes of horns or sex are not critical.

bullet

A perfect score for a team will be two hits (X) in a very short time. In case of two or more teams having two hits, we will use the time total to determine the winner.

One Shot Bow Hunt Rules 2006

bullet

Hunting participants will be divided into teams of two people. You can select and form your own team. All team members will be hunting individually.

bullet

All participants will be hunting from established blinds and will be accompanied by either a PH or a tracker, not another hunter. The blinds will be pre-numbered and assigned to individual hunters by a drawing.

bullet

The hunt begins at 7:30 AM and ends at 4:00 PM or as specifically scheduled.

bullet

Only shots which mortally wound an animal with one arrow are counted for score.

bullet

A missed shot scores as zero. If you fail to release a shot by 4:00 PM. then that also scores as a zero.

bullet

A wounded animal that can be recovered without releasing another arrow constitutes a hit. If the wounded animal can only be recovered by releasing more arrows then that constitutes a miss. A knife can be used to finish a severely wounded animal without penalty.

bullet

If the animal that is shot at is missed or wounded and not recovered, that constitutes a miss even if the original arrow happened to kill another animal by accident.

bullet

If the animal actually killed is of another species than that which is being hunted, that constitutes a miss and the hunter will be responsible for the difference in trophy fee.

bullet

Both the hunter and the PH or tracker accompanying the hunter will need to keep track of the time when the animal was killed. If the animal was seriously wounded and had to be finished with a knife, the time of the kill is when it was finished with the knife.

bullet

Remember that the purpose of the hunt is to get an animal with one arrow. Sizes of horns or sex are not critical.

bullet

The results of the hunt must be reported to the Club President by 5:00 PM of the day of the hunt. Both the hunter and the accompanying PH or tracker must confirm the time when scoring kills were made.

bullet

A perfect score for a team will be when each kills an animal through releasing a single arrow. In case of two or more teams having two kills, the winning team will be the one which required the least time total to kill both animals.
bullet

Example:
bullet

Team Alpha – Hunter A killed an animal at 10:30 AM and Hunter B killed an animal at 11:00 AM. The time for the team is 6 hours and 30 minutes.

bullet

Team Delta - Hunter D killed an animal at 10:30 AM and Hunter E killed an animal at 12:00 AM. The time for the team is 7 hours and 30 minutes.

bullet

If no team is successful in killing two animals, the team which kills at least one of the animals being hunted in the least time will be the winner.

bullet

Scoring for the winners will be as follows:

Only shots at impala which are 100 yards or greater, as measured by the accompanying PH with a laser range finder, will be counted for score.

Only shots which kill an impala or which wound it sufficiently for the animal to be finished with a knife will be counted.

The shooter's score for each shot will be the yardage at which the killing or mortally wounding shot was taken.  Example: if the shooter misses one shot and kills two impala - one at 275 yards and one at 300 yards - with his other two shots, his score is 575.

In the event of a tie score, the winning team will be selected based on the minimum time required for it to complete its 6 shots or to kill 4 impala.
